Zafimaniry Villages – Electric Fat Bike
Overview
Zafimaniry Villages – Electric Fat Bike Experience
Start from Ivato River Lodge near Anjozorozoro. After a short briefing, depart by electric fat bike. The ride to Antoetra takes around 1.5 hours on a terrible dirt road.
Ride to Laibury Viewpoint, leave the bikes, and descend on foot to the Sakaivo descent (allow ~1–1.5 hours; ~700 m). You’ll need to climb back up on the return.
Note: Reaching Sakaivo on foot from Antoetra normally requires a return hike of approximately 6/7 hours. Using electric fat bikes significantly reduces the approach time and effort, limiting the walking to the final descent/ascent section.
In Sakaivo:
- Walk through the village (traditional wooden houses, carved details)
- Meet the village chief if available
- Time to explore and interact with locals
Optional extensions:
- Atetezandotra: +2 hrs round trip
- Faliarivo: +4 hrs walking total
Optional: simple homestay in Sakaivo.
Return by the same route: hike back up to Laibury, then ride the electric fat bikes back to Ivato River Lodge.
