Nosy Komba & Nosy Tanikely

Overview

If you are staying in Nosy Be and only have one day available for island hopping, the combination of Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely Marine Park is probably the most popular excursion in the region.

The day combines two very different islands. Nosy Komba, often known as “Lemur Island”, is famous for its volcanic landscapes, traditional villages, local handicrafts and its population of friendly black lemurs. Nosy Tanikely, on the other hand, is a protected marine reserve renowned for its crystal-clear waters, coral reefs and some of the best snorkeling opportunities around Nosy Be.

With short boat crossings, beautiful scenery and plenty of time for swimming and relaxation, this is an excursion suitable for almost everyone.

The Experience

Departure usually takes place around 8:00 AM, with pick-up directly from your hotel in Nosy Be.

The first stop is generally Nosy Komba, a volcanic island located between Nosy Be and mainland Madagascar. Upon arrival, visitors can stroll through the village, browse local handicraft stalls and observe the island’s famous black lemurs.

The atmosphere here is relaxed and authentic, offering a glimpse into daily island life away from the larger tourist resorts.

After exploring Nosy Komba, the excursion continues by boat to Nosy Tanikely Marine Park.

Surrounded by shallow coral reefs and tropical fish, Nosy Tanikely is one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in northern Madagascar. Most visitors spend several hours swimming, snorkeling or simply relaxing on the beach.

A short walk leads to the island’s historic lighthouse, where panoramic views extend across the surrounding islands and the Mozambique Channel.

Lunch is usually served on the beach before more free time for swimming, snorkeling and enjoying the marine reserve.

Return to Nosy Be takes place during the afternoon, with arrival back at your hotel generally around 4:00 PM.
