Experience Nosy Iranja

Overview

No visit to Nosy Be would be complete without discovering Nosy Iranja, one of the most famous islands in the archipelago. Located around 90 minutes to 2 hours by boat from Nosy Be, the island is known for its spectacular white sandbank that connects two islands at low tide.

Often considered one of the most beautiful islands in Madagascar, Nosy Iranja combines turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, coconut palms and a relaxed atmosphere that feels far removed from the busier areas around Nosy Be.

One island is home to a small fishing village and an old colonial lighthouse, while the other remains largely untouched.

For many travelers, Nosy Iranja is exactly the tropical island they imagined before arriving in Madagascar.

The Experience

Departure takes place around 8:00 AM from your hotel in Nosy Be.

After a short transfer to the departure point, board a motorboat for the crossing to Nosy Iranja. Depending on sea conditions, the journey generally takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

As you approach the island, the famous white sandbank gradually appears. At low tide, this stunning ribbon of white sand connects the two islands and creates one of Madagascar’s most photographed landscapes.

A walk to the old lighthouse rewards visitors with beautiful views across the archipelago and the Mozambique Channel. Along the way, you pass through a traditional fishing village where life continues much as it has for generations.

Lunch is served by the sea before some free time to swim, stroll along the sandbank or simply enjoy one of the most beautiful settings in the Nosy Be archipelago.

Return to Nosy Be takes place during the afternoon, with arrival back at your hotel generally between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
