Nosy Sakatia Experience

Overview

Just a short boat ride from Nosy Be, Nosy Sakatia offers a completely different atmosphere from the better-known islands of the archipelago. Quieter, greener and far less visited, it is often referred to as the “Island of Orchids” thanks to its lush vegetation and peaceful setting.

The island is best known for one unforgettable experience: swimming and snorkeling alongside giant green sea turtles in their natural habitat. The shallow waters surrounding Nosy Sakatia provide some of the most reliable turtle encounters anywhere around Nosy Be.

This private day trip combines marine life, beautiful beaches, local village life and relaxed island exploration, making it one of the most enjoyable excursions available from Nosy Be.

The Experience

Departure takes place around 8:00 AM from your hotel in Nosy Be.

After a short transfer to the departure point, board your private motorboat and head toward Nosy Sakatia. The crossing is relatively short and offers beautiful views across the bay.

Upon arrival, the first activity is usually snorkeling in one of the island’s famous turtle areas. The shallow waters are home to numerous green sea turtles that regularly feed on the seagrass beds close to shore, offering excellent opportunities for observation and photography. Sightings are extremely frequent, although wildlife can never be guaranteed.

The day continues with exploration of the island itself. Since Nosy Sakatia has no roads, much of the island is discovered on foot through small fishing villages, tropical vegetation, orchid-covered landscapes and quiet beaches.

Lunch is served by the sea before enjoying free time for swimming, snorkeling or simply relaxing under the shade of the coconut trees.

Return to Nosy Be takes place during the afternoon, with arrival back at your hotel around 4:00 PM.

Why Choose This Experience

While Nosy Tanikely is famous for its coral reefs, Nosy Sakatia is best known for its sea turtles and peaceful atmosphere.

The island feels less developed, less crowded and more authentic, making it ideal for travelers looking for a relaxed day focused on nature and marine life rather than busy excursion routes.

For many visitors, swimming alongside giant sea turtles in their natural environment becomes one of the highlights of their stay in Nosy Be.
