Marojejy Rainforest Trekking Experience – 4 Days

Overview

Among Madagascar’s wildlife destinations, Marojejy National Park stands apart. Hidden in the remote northeast near Sambava, it protects some of the island’s finest remaining rainforest, with dramatic mountains, waterfalls, pristine forests and extraordinary biodiversity.

Marojejy is also one of the best places in Madagascar to see the legendary Silky Sifaka, often described as the world’s most beautiful lemur. It is one of the few places where this critically endangered species can still be observed in the wild.

Unlike many of Madagascar’s national parks, Marojejy is a true trekking destination. Expect steep trails, river crossings, mountain camps and scenery that becomes increasingly spectacular as you gain altitude.

This four-day adventure is designed for travelers looking to experience one of Madagascar’s wildest and most rewarding protected areas.

The Experience

Day 1 – Sambava to Camp Mantella

Morning departure from Sambava and transfer to Manantenina, the gateway village to Marojejy National Park.

After meeting your local guide and porters, the trek begins through lowland rainforest. The trail follows rivers and forest paths rich in wildlife.

This first section is relatively gentle and offers excellent opportunities to spot lemurs, chameleons, frogs and endemic birds.

Day 2 – Camp Mantella to Camp Marojejia

After breakfast, continue deeper into the national park.

The trail gradually becomes steeper as the forest changes with altitude. Giant tree ferns, moss-covered trees and dense mountain vegetation dominate the landscape.
