Golden Light & Dry Trails
May is arguably the most perfectly balanced month. The dry season is established, humidity is low, and the golden light makes for spectacular photography and comfortable hiking across all regions of the island.
What works well
- Every Region: All parks and roads are fully accessible and highly rewarding.
- Tsingy de Bemaraha: Fully open, dry, and safe for climbing the limestone labyrinths.
- Marine Life: Whales begin arriving in Madagascar towards the end of the month.
What can be difficult
- Dust: Depending on road conditions, reaching Bekopaka can take up to 12 hours, sometimes requiring travelers to get out of the vehicle and help it through particularly muddy sections.
Usually not recommended
- None: This is one of the absolute best months for a complete, comprehensive island circumnavigation.
