The Season Reopens
April marks the true reopening of the Madagascar travel season. The rains have stopped, the dust has settled, and the parks are fully accessible. It is a brilliant, comfortable month to visit before the peak winter crowds arrive.
What works well
- Almost Everywhere: The RN7, the North, and the East are in prime condition with comfortable temperatures.
- West Coast: Morondava and the Avenue of the Baobabs open up reliably by mid-to-late April.
- Wildlife: The first baby lemurs of the year begin to appear, clinging to their mothers.
What can be difficult
- Early April: Might still see some muddy patches in the deep west, but conditions improve rapidly week by week.
Usually not recommended
- Tsingy de Bemaraha: Can be risky in the first week of April, but usually opens fully and safely by mid-month.
